For the past month since it dropped, I've had Jahron Anthony Brathwaite's debut album, Two, on constant replay. I listen to this album in full almost daily. I listen to his first self titled EP just as often.
He is better known as PARTYNEXTDOOR.
PND was born on July 3, 1993 and originates from Missisauga. He's from right here at home. He seems to be low key as my search for his bio turned up empty. We do know that he is signed to Drake's OVO label, and quickly solidifying his spot in the music game while crossing borders. Two was number one on both the American R&B & R&B/ hip hop charts. His album sales have been modest but to anyone who's has listened that I've spoken to, his body of work is classic. To me, this isn't your everyday R&B. PND's sound is a cross between The Weeknd, Jhene Aiko & Drake. If this is the new sound of Toronto R&B I'm here for it. Two isn't for the faint of heart, it's sexual. It's overt. There are themes of misogyny. His music is brooding, dark & intense. There isn't one song I skip on either of these bodies of music. This is the soundtrack to my life right now.
You can get Two on iTunes, there are also links for both bodies of work on YouTube.
